This Ol' School House

This is an old school house that is a couple of miles from our house. 

I stopped by this last summer for a closer look.

No longer in use, and out in the middle of "No whereville" .

Complete with a merry-go-round, 

and a slide to play on.  

I wonder if kids still know what some of these toys are....no batteries or internet here.

No indoor plumbing either.

Not even indoor running water.

It was a simple time.

Just a look at an Ol' School House...."Remember When"

My husband said that it hasn't been used for a school house for 75 years or so 

and is used on occasion for a "community building" now.

Labor Day Parade

 Here is a Labor Day Parade in a small town.  (Yes, I know I'm late)

 Complete with clowns, firetrucks.....

and best of all small children.  

Randy can not wait until he is a Grandpa,

 but until then he will drool over any kid he can get his hands on.

 We've got motorcycles, 

 and old pickups 

 in several colors.

 Cars.....

 bikes.....

 all sorts of transportation,

 and two of my favorite people.

White Farm House

My husband and I were driving down a country road and came upon this old farm home at an intersection.  The entire corner was mowed and edged, not a weed growing up around the house. 

 I'm still not sure why, but I loved it.

 I always want to know the stories of old abandoned houses.  

Christmas mornings, birthday parties or who first moved in to the new house 

and how exciting they were......a brand new home. 

Most of the windows were broken out.

Making it possible to "see thru" it.

They had a little porch on all sides....very inviting.

Complete with the water pump right out their door....

all the conveniences of home.

Just Shootin'

A few weeks ago our family got together, and when we get together the guys love to.....

Trap Shoot!!

It's a great way to spend time together.

This is my son Kyler...he loves to trap shoot.

This is his wife Sarah and she is just hanging out watching everyone.

My daughter is getting wind blown here (Oklahoma and wind, they go together),

but she is out here to watch ....

her fiance Macy.  Were teaching him to be a Redneck.

  Randy is in the middle and he is the "thrower" today.

If you ask any of them who won, well you would probably get three different answers,

but I would tell you it was great having my kids around and 

just spending time together.

Firemen's Fund Raiser

 One of the many things I love about a small town is the people.  Nothing against large towns, I have lived there and they have some great things to offer, but speaking for myself only I didn't get to know as many people on an personal level as I do in a small town, and part of the reason for that is functions like this.  It is our towns fire departments annual fund raiser.  (that's a mouth full).  They just move out the fire trucks, and set up table and chairs for everyone to sit.

 Complete with a dalmatian for the kids.  One girl was worried about the dog not eating...so cute.

 Sure the main purpose is to get money for the fire department.  Just a note, it is a volunteer fire department, and that alone says a lot about the people who give of their time. (Lots of time)  We had a wild fire out by our house a couple of years ago, less than a mile from our house and let me just say,  grateful for the VOLUNTEER fire department is putting it mildly.  

 It is also a great social event.  You get to go and visit with your neighbors, friends and even family.  

 This is my Grandma in the middle of the photo.  I was having a little trouble getting a smile out of her.......so naturally she is friends with everyone sitting around her and.......

 were more than willing to help me out and get her to laugh for the camera....Thanks.

 This is my mother-in-law holding one of my pies up for the auction, both her and my father-in-law have given years of volunteering for their hometown.

My son and his wife.  They have bought a house in our small town about a year ago, so now it is also their town.  They are here in support as well.  We all had one great meal, all prepared by the volunteers, that alone is no small task.  Thanks to all of the volunteers.

I love a small town, can ya tell?

Small Town and Cokes

 This is so patriotic.....I love this wall.   It is nearly full with names of people who have sacrificed for all of us.  My father-in-laws name is on this wall, and many others who are from this community and it makes me very grateful and proud of each and every name on this wall.

If you live in our part of the United States, this is a familiar site.....Grain Elevators.   To me these always make me think of harvest and our farmers.   They are easy to get use to and not think much of, but when I lived in California we never saw any.  Then when I returned to the small communities it was something I could see for miles away and it would make me think "I'm home". 

I don't know the story behind the side of this building.  I just think it is kinda neat.......that and I love my coke (with vanilla syrup).....I'm craving one now.  I'd never heard of putting flavors in cokes until I lived in a small town.......

They are the best....(Small towns and cokes.....they just go together)

"Country Is..."
This is the sign in our drive way & it gives our greeting Country Style

I remember when I was a kid riding in the back seat of my dads car and on the 8 track tape, yes I said 8 track,  I would hear "Country is" by Tom T Hall.   I loved the song then and still do.   For those of you who are unfamiliar with the lyrics, here are a few of them.

From start to finish maybe 15 minutes but so much
